Yinger, J. Milton, "Assimilation in the United States: The Mexican-Americans," in Mexican-Americans in Comparative Perspective, Walker Connor (ed.), Washington, D.C.: The Urban Institute Press, 1985.
Abstract:
Assimilation is neither an either/or proposition, nor an unidirectional movement. Based on present evidence, Mexican-American or Hispanic identity will not soon disappear. Questions remain on how to get rid of racial discrimination, support cultural diversity, and ensure that a humanistic identity subordinates ethnic separatism.
