Vaus, David A. de, "Workforce Participation and Sex Differences in Church Attendance," Review of Religious Research, 25 (March, 1984), 247-256.

Abstract:

The lower participation of women in the work force does not explain their greater commitment to institutional religion in the United States. Rather it is the low church attendance of men not in full-time work that accentuates the sex-related differences in church attendance.
