Abstract:
The Supreme Court decisions on abortion followed and did not precede an increase in public support for abortion. The decisions instead hardened the positions of abortion opponents and made the issue more salient rather than resolved it. Although the pro-life lobbying groups have had more success at the electoral level, strategies in the policy-making arena would have less potential for disrupting their bipartisan support and putting an end to the measurement.
