Tedrow, Lucky M. and Mahoney, E.R., "Trends in Attitudes Toward Abortion: 1972-1976," Public Opinion Quarterly, 43 (Summer, 1979), 182-189.

Abstract:

Since 1972, approval of abortion for all reasons has increased. Females appear to lag one year behind males in this trend in abortion attitudes. Education, religion, and prestige also are related to tolerance of abortion. The less-educated, those with lower prestige occupations, and Catholics are more likely to have conservative views concerning abortion.
