Reimer, Samuel H., "A Look at Cultural Effects on Religiosity: A Comparison Between the United States and Canada," Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, 34 (1995), 445-457.

Abstract:

The relatively high level of religiosity in the United States is largely due to cultural-identity norms whereas religious beliefs and practices in Canada are less founded upon socially conventional elements and based more upon personal conviction because there is less pressure to conform to a single ideology in Canada than in the U.S.
