Rasinski, Kenneth A., Timberlake, Jeffrey and Lock, Eric, "Public Support for Social Spending and Drug Addiction," Paper presented to the American Association of Public Opinion Research, St. Louis, Missouri, May, 1998.

Abstract:

The rationale of public support for social spending on drug addiction is best understood in terms of self-interest, sociopolitical attitudes and values, and media effects. Racial minorities, Democrats, fundamentalist Protestants, and those with high levels of media consumption are the most likely to favor government spending on drug addiction.
