Rankin, Joseph Howard, "Investigating the Interrelations Among Social Control Variables and Conformity; Changing Attitudes toward Capital Punishment; Schools and Delinquency," Unpublished Ph.D. dissertation, University of Arizona, 1978.

Abstract:

Inner and outer containments both have a deterrent effect on delinquency, but only further research can specify the conditions under which these elements affect juvenile maladjustment. The rise in support for capital punishment is related to the increase in the violent crime rate. The correlation between behavior in and toward school and delinquency was examined. Sex and grade differences can account for the strength of this relationship.
