Raden, David, "The Relationship Between Scores on an Attitude Scale and Other Measures of Attitude Strength in a National Survey," Paper presented to the American Sociological Association, Cincinnati, Ohio, August, 1991.
Abstract:
While firmness and adequacy of information seem confounded with one's position on an abortion scale, for those supporting abortion attitude importance and concern appeared unrelated to scale scores. For Catholics opposing abortion, attitude strength measures correlate highly, while for men supporting abortion they did not. Subgroup and experimental variation suggest one cannot as yet conclusively claim whether scale scores also capture intensity and that intensity is a unidimensional factor.
