Raden, David, "Are Scores on Conventional Attitudes Scales Confounded with Other Measures of Attitude Strength? Findings from the General Social Survey," Psychological Reports, 64 (June, 1989), 1247-1252.

Abstract:

Measures of attitude strength over feminist issues, except for degree of firmness, when used as independent variables towards attitudes to sex roles, produced mean attitude scale scores for the different strength levels which varied significantly. The mean scale scores were generally greater for higher levels of strength.
