Abstract:
Low levels of awareness of government's impact, system affect, and tolerance may pose impediments to democratization in China. The Chinese may be unmotivated to engage in politics and may favor the repression of ideas that they do not agree with. Even though educated Chinese are more tolerant than poorly educated Chinese, they are less likely to hold democratic beliefs than people of the same education level in other nations.
