Abstract:
Past empirical studies have culminated in a consistent finding that both personal resources and social resources have effects on an individual’s status attainment. Yet, the roles of social resources in the process of achieving status vary in societies with different social systems, customs, and values. The objective of this paper is to begin an investigation of the Japanese status attainment process by applying a conceptual framework based on the established research findings in Western countries and then
