Abstract:

The ERA failed to pass in part due to its supporters ignoring and not listening to potentially sympathetic parties such as liberal churches which led to a debate in which opponents talked passed one another. The struggle to pass the ERA did raise consciousness of feminist issues for men and women of all beliefs and began to raise such issues within government.
