Abstract:

The Democrats have become the majority party of nearly all social groups, at least outside of the presidential arena. Voting for the presidency, however, is done less on party lines and more on differences in ideology, policy, and personality. There has also been a class inversion in electoral behavior with high status cohorts more liberal than low-status groups.
