Ladd, Everett Carll, Jr., "The Polls: The Questions of Confidence," Public Opinion Quarterly, 40 (Winter, 1976-77), 545-552.
Abstract:
Indicators show that the public mood has darkened over the last 10 years. People are angry at the actions and inactions of various leaders, they feel society has fallen short of its promise in a number of areas, and believe their individual viewpoints are inadequately attended to. Available data, however, do not support the argument that the U.S. has experienced any sort of legitimacy crisis or that the country is at the beginning of one.
