Abstract:

Though many argue American mainline religions are losing their hegemony to secularization trends, the amount of time accorded the "sacred" aspects of life may remain constant; the recent rise of alternative religions may be a backlash of the "sacred" though for institutional reasons these movements aren't considered religious.
