Gerbner, George, "Gratuitous Violence and Exploitive Sex: What Are the Lessons? (Including Violence Profile No. 13)," Paper presented to the hearing of the Study Committee of the Communications Commission of the National Council of Churches, New York, September, 1984.

Abstract:

The amount of commercialized violence and exploitative sex on television has increased. Heavy TV viewers tend to be more sexist in their orientation, express feelings of living in a "mean world," and express greater insecurities about the safety of their neighborhood and the chances of encountering violence.
