Abstract:

This series of volumes is aimed at converting the vast statistical yield of the 1980 census into independent, authoritative analyses of significant changes and trends in American life. As blacks advance, this society continues to be uncomfortable with sustained black progress, particularly when this progress results in any diminution in the economic status of whites.
