Farley, Reynolds, "Trends in Racial Inequalities: Have the Gains of the 1960s Disappeared in the 1970s?" American Sociological Review, 42 (April, 1977), 189-207.

Abstract:

The expansion of the economy in the 1960s was thought to have accounted for the improvement of black status in that decade, and that the recession of the 1970s would negate that improvement. However, investigation of recent trends in education, employment, occupations, family income, and personal earnings indicates that black gains have not disappeared.
