Case, Charles E., Jr., "Changes in Egalitarian Attitudes toward Racial and Ethnic Minorities from 1956 to 1980--the Interaction of Education and Cultural Environment," Unpublished Ph.D. dissertation, University of Arizona, 1983.
Abstract:
Support for equal treatment of minority groups continuously increased from 1956 to 1980, as a result in a shift in the cultural environment in America. While southerners are still found to be slightly less egalitarian, regional differences have continuously decreased. Education has a constant effect in reducing prejudice even in periods of time and in subcultures generally hostile to egalitarianism.
