Carpenter, James; Pan, Shu-hui K.; and Weaver, Charles N., "Marital Status: A Near-Forgotten Variable in Explaining Work-Related Attitudes," Paper presented to the Southwestern Society for Economists, San Antonio, February/March, 1984.
Abstract:
Married workers gain the most satisfaction from their jobs, while never-married workers are least job-satisfied. Only among divorced or widowed workers does satisfaction vary with sex, women being more satisfied. This difference among types of unmarried workers suggests that marital status should not be examined in terms of a simple married/unmarried dichotomy.
