Calasanti, Toni M., "Gender and Life Satisfaction in Retirement: An Assessment of the Male Model," Journal of Gerontology, 51 (1996), S18-S29.

Abstract:

Important factors for life satisfaction in retirement included marital status, health, whether the occupation was self-directed, and to a lesser extent, education. There are persistent gender differences in the findings of life satisfaction models suggesting the need to account for gender.
