Abstract:

Cultural support for legitimate violence as well as a higher degree of social disorganization, increased urbanization, larger economic differentiation, and a higher percent of single males are all directly related to an increased rate of rape. A younger population and a high percent of blacks also increases rape rates indirectly through their positive association with legitimate violence.
