Bainbridge, William Sims, "Religion and Distrust of Science: Shadows of an Invisible Phenomenon," Unpublished paper, October, 1992.

Abstract:

Compared with the majority, those with very high and very low rates of church attendance show more distrust in science, but also more distrust with organized religion and secular institutions. At high rates of church attendance, high distrust in science is attributed to membership in radical religious sects rather than to individual religiosity.
