Bailey, Stanley R., “The Race Construct and Public Opinion: Understanding Brazilian Beliefs about Racial Inequality and Their Determinants,” American Journal of Sociology, 35 (September, 2002), 406-39.

Abstract:

his paper finds that Brazilians, unlike most others, understand the discriminatory basis of inequality between blacks and whites. It also shows that there is an attitudinal dimension associated with racial democracy that strongly increases the likelihood of this understanding.
