Aidala, Angela A., "Communes and Changing Family Norms: Marriage and Lifestyle Choice Among Former Members of Communal Groups," Journal of Family Issues, 10 (September, 1989), 311-338.

Abstract:

From following a sample of commune dwellers in the 1970s, ex-commune members are less likely to be married than similarly aged non-commune dwellers. Many currently live in a multi-adult household and others wouldn't object to living on a commune in the future. Most still hold alternative ideas and attitudes about the family.
