Abramson, Paul R. and Ostrom, Charles, "Response: Question Wording and Macropartisanship," American Political Science Review, 86 (June, 1992), 181-186.
Abstract:
Macropartisanship changes less dramatically when measured using NES or GSS surveys. MacKuen et. al. conclusions about capricious realignment shifts within politics as usually based on Gallup results probably result from differences in question wording and should not be necessarily assumed to be indicative of all macropartisanship trends. (See also No. 1967 MacKuen, Erikson, and Stimson)
