Abstract:
A social involvement scale based on the annual reports of Fortune 500 companies used to analyze response to criticism and governmental pressure, and the relationship between social involvement and corporate profitability in the face of public and regulatory pressure in such areas as environmental quality and community involvement. These latter actions do not significantly affect profitability.
